Elma School District Technology Department
The Elma School District maintains a three year technology plan based on the school improvement goals of each building in the district. As part of that plan, the district recognizes that technology serves two vital purposes within our district. First, from the educational standpoint, technology enhances classroom instruction and equips students with the technical skills demanded in the information age. Secondly, technology allows the district to efficiently perform its required administrative functions and operations, including communications, data processing and systems management. The district’s ability to provide competitive 21st technology to its students and employees is largely due to the faithful commitment of our district tax payers. The Maintenance and Operation Levy voters supported two years ago has provided over 70% of all technology funds used during the period.

Levy dollars support our network traffic filtering, anti-virus and anti-spam services, web hosting services, and the maintenance and operation of all network services. In addition, two Technology Support Personnel positions are also funded through the levy.

We have obtained just under 200 viable computers in the last two years at no cost to the district through the "Computers for Kids" program. This program was established when the 1999 Washington Legislature passed ESSB 5175, which states that "state-owned, surplus computers and computer-related equipment may be donated to any school district or educational service district under the guidelines and distribution standards established ..."

This helps us improve the overall quality of our computer inventory. In the spring of 2006 t
he Elma School District received 40 more free computers.
