 September is the month Elma FFA kicks off the school year with fair displays and competition. Elma FFA had over 200 members exhibit many items ranging from corsages, flower arrangements, education posters, agriculture science investigations, forest tree identification boards, demonstrations, and more at the Western Washington Puyallup Fair. FFA Advisors; Christi Kershaw, Kendra Meek, Dave Rutherford, and Kari Toms assist students with fair exhibits to compete for blue and red ribbons. Numerous blue ribbons were award for top quality projects. Elma FFA was also awarded Best Horticulture Chapter.

The State Poultry Career Development Event was another event Elma FFA competed in during the Puyallup Fair. Two teams of five members represented Elma sweeping 1st and 2nd place. Additionally, Elma FFA swept all top 10 individual positions. First place to Cory Roberts, Luke Boyer – 2nd, Emily Kershaw – 3rd, Matt Hinderlie – 4th, Amanda Brown – 5th, Ella Pittsley – 6th, Reynaldo Ayala – 7th, Logan Zepp – 8th, Megan Custis – 9th, and Katie Sund – 10th.
Elma FFA will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN, October 17-24. “I am excited to win and earn the opportunity to travel and compete at the next level”, states Matt Hinderlie, Washington State FFA Poultry Science Team member. Elma FFA captured a state championship earlier in August in Dairy Cattle Evaluation. Combined with two state champion teams, the chapter will also be honored for 3-Star National Chapter as top 2% in the nation, and Brett Boyer will earn the highest individual achievement in FFA as an American Degree Recipient.
